I have yet to upgrade to Vista. The main reason is most of my software, that I have invested money in, is not compatible. I also was not impressed with the advancements. I was puzzled why they didn’t put more effort in creating a 64 bit version. And from what I read on message boards Vista is not what users wanted.

But the thing is Microsoft must have some great plans for this new design. It will probably take some time to develop. There is much software now as of 20070419 that takes advantage of Vista. But that is going to change when the new games are released. The whole Vista project has been slow. It was originally scheduled for a 2004 release. So even though Vista first appears to be an unpopular upgrade, it was probably designed to evolve and improve over time.

If you are someone who doesn’t like how Vista is not compatible with old software think of the following fact. Back with Windows 95 the OS could have been made more stable if it required 5 Mb of ram. The part that would have stopped users from having some many blue screens of errors was cut in order to make it compatible with 4 Mb of ram. (4 Mb ram is what most computers had pre-installed.) So there is a trade-off between compatibility and getting the maximum use of new hardware.

XP is still a great OS and will be for many years. I don’t think there is reason to upgrade to Vista now. However it probably has a lot of improvements that haven’t been seen yet.
